Introduction
The Apple iPhone 13 series has been a part of our lives for over a year. Even though the iPhone 14 is now available, don't forget about the iPhone 13.
The phones would not represent a significant design shift from 2020's iPhone 12 devices, but they do offer numerous upgrades, great features, and more.
There are four iPhone 13 models, similar to the iPhone 12: the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. All four iPhone models have received upgrades, some of which are long-requested features by iPhone users. You can view them on Amazon from the links below.

Price
The first piece of good news concerns the price. Those expecting the
iPhone 13 to cost more than the previous model may be surprised to learn
that there has been no price increase.
Prospective UK buyers will be pleased to learn that the iPhone 13 is
£20 less expensive than the equivalent
iPhone 12 at launch, across all storage
sizes. So, the 128GB iPhone 13 costs £779 / $799 / AU$1349, the 256GB
iPhone 13 costs £879 / $899 / AU$1869, and the 512GB iPhone 13 costs
£1079 / $1099 / AU$1869. Only the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models have
1TB of storage.
Design
While Apple claims that the iPhone 13 has been "redesigned on the inside and out," the untrained eye may struggle to spot any significant differences at first glance.
After all, the iPhone 13 resembles its predecessor in appearance and feel.
The build quality is excellent, as we've come to expect from the tech
behemoth. The aluminium frame is sturdy, and the smooth, flat edges provide
plenty of grip when held in the palm of your hand. It's a pleasant thing to
hold, and it appears to provide a premium smartphone experience.
By comparing new and old, you'll notice that the ring/silent switch, volume controls, and power button have all been slightly shifted along the edges.
The biggest and most noticeable difference is the presence of a new camera
layout on the back of the iPhone 13. The older model's stacked arrangement
has been replaced by a larger, diagonal arrangement on the new phone. But
we'll get to that later.
The iPhone 13 comes in five new colour options: midnight (black), starlight
(white), red, blue, and pink.
screen
On the screen, not much has changed: the iPhone 13 retains its 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, which has been toughened by Apple's Ceramic Shield. However, Apple claims to be more efficient, increasing maximum brightness by 28% to 800 nits for SDR content and 1200 nits for HDR content. The screen resolution is 2532 x 1170 pixels, with a pixel density of 460 pixels per inch. As previously stated, it is a True Tone display that supports Wide Color.
iPhone 13 display with 120Hz refresh rate
The display on the Pro iPhones has been significantly improved. Apple's Pro devices finally got ProMotion displays after years of high refresh rates on Android phones. That is, they have a refresh rate of 120Hz, which provides smooth software animations and a responsive feel. This was a long-overdue addition, but it's still welcome.
Unlike the more expensive iPhone 13 Pro and Max, the iPhone 13's screen only has a 60Hz refresh rate; only the more expensive models have a 120Hz display.
cameras
iPhone 13 ultra-wide camera improvements
The iPhone 12 series brought significant improvements to the iPhone's camera, with larger camera sensors and improved low-light performance.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max, in particular, performed admirably in this regard.
Apple included that technology in the entire iPhone 13 lineup. It aids the devices' low-light performance and stabilisation.
The two lower-end models, like the iPhone 12 and 12 mini, retain dual-camera setups. One has a 12-megapixel wide camera and the other has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera.
Furthermore, the Pro devices retain a triple camera setup, which includes a 12-megapixel telephoto camera.
The phone series also includes some new software features. They've added a new Cinematic Mode feature, which is similar to Portrait Mode for video recording.
By tapping on subjects on the display, you can change the focus. The iPhones also include a new AI-based filter system known as "Styles."
Features of the Front-Facing Camera
The notch display's 12-megapixel f/2.2 camera supports many of the photographic features found in the rear camera.
Each photographic style allows you to have some creative control over your selfies.
Night mode, Dolby Vision HDR recording, Deep Fusion, and Cinematic mode shooting are all available. The iPhone 13 cinematic mode allows you to shoot movie-like videos with depth field effects.
Video Capture
The iPhone 13 and 13 mini can also record 4K video at 24, 25, 30, and
60 frames per second.
The camera upgrades also enable HDR video recording with Dolby Vision up to 4k at 60 frames per second. You can also choose to record your videos in 1080p or 720p resolution.
Sound quality
The iPhone 13's speaker arrangement hasn't changed, so you won't be surprised to learn that it sounds just as good as its predecessor. Because of their even-handed approach, the internal speakers handle most situations well. There's plenty of detail and clarity, but don't expect much in the way of punchy bass.
If you intend to listen for an extended period of time, we recommend pairing the iPhone 13 with the best wireless headphones you can afford (or a pair of wired headphones if you own a 3.5mm to Lightning dongle).
Performance
The iPhone 13 introduces a new chip, the A15 Bionic. It is built around a
new six-core CPU and four high-efficiency cores (supposedly making it 50
per cent faster than the competition). The new GPU is said to be 30%
faster than competitors, and a new 16-core Neural Engine means machine
learning skills have improved as well. As a result, Apple has been able to
unlock new iOS 15 features such as Live Text in Camera and a new 3D Maps
navigation feature.
In practise, the user experience is as quick and slick as we've come to
expect from Apple devices. The difference in speed when performing general
tasks like opening and closing apps and navigating around the phone isn't
that noticeable, but boot-up time is (by about seven seconds, if you're
curious).
Battery life
The battery capacity of all four iPhone 13 models has been increased. The iPhone 13 Mini and iPhone 13 Pro have a battery life that is 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 12 Mini. Additionally, the standard iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a 2.5-hour battery life improvement over their 12 counterparts and older iPhone models.
The mini can also play video
for up to 17 hours (13 hours when streaming) and audio for up to 55
hours. Users of the iPhone 13 can watch videos for up to 19 hours and
stream online for up to 15 hours. Furthermore, the audio playback time can
be extended to 75 hours.
According to Apple, this is primarily due to
a more efficient chip (the A15 Bionic chip) and software.
The iPhone
13 has a 3,227 mAh battery life compared to the iPhone 12's 2,815 mAh.
Furthermore, the iPhone 13 mini has a 2,406 mAh battery life capacity as
opposed to the 2,227 mAh in the iPhone 12 mini.
All iPhone 13 models
have been designed to have longer battery life than their predecessors.
Fast
charging is supported on the iPhone 13 models via a Lightning to USB-C
cable and a 20W power adapter. The best part is that you can charge your
iPhone 13 up to 50% in just 30 minutes!
