If you haven't heard, you can now customise your iPhone's lock screen in iOS 16 by adding widgets and changing the layout of the lock screen, as well as the font and colour of the date and time.
This will be a long-awaited addition for many iPhone users, allowing them to personalise their Apple device and break away from the uniform lock screens of previous iOS iterations, all while maintaining the iPhone's characteristically clean aesthetic.
Furthermore, you will be able to do more than just design and use a single lock screen. Yes, iOS 16 allows users to save different lock screen designs, switch between them easily, and even assign them to Focus modes (meaning your lock screen with automatically change when you switch Focus).
How to Change the Lock Screen on Your iPhone in iOS 16
1. Go to Settings, then Wallpaper.
2. Choose Add New Wallpaper.
3. Tap a wallpaper to change the background of your lock screen. iOS will show you featured designs and photos from your library. You can also choose a Photo Shuffle wallpaper that changes dynamically throughout the day. (If you choose the latter, you can customise who appears and how frequently the shuffle occurs.)
4. Next, tap the clock to change the date and time font and colour. There are eight different fonts and a rainbow of colour options to choose from.
5. Tap the date to add a widget to the right of the clock. Widget options include, among others, reminders, upcoming appointments, fitness rings, and the current temperature.
6. To add more widgets, tap the square area just below the clock. Currently, your options include Apple's built-in apps such as Clock, Batteries, Calendar, News, Stocks, Weather, and others from third-party apps such as Google Maps. There is space for four small widgets or two large ones. As with your home screen, you can also mix and match sizes.
7. When you're finished with the design, tap Done in the upper right corner of the screen. Tap Cancel in the upper left corner to clear everything.
Please keep in mind: that the image you choose for your lock screen wallpaper will also serve as the background image for your home screen by default. You can change the wallpaper on your home screen by tapping customise, which includes adding a blur if the background image clashes with your app icons.
So there you have it. Now you can personalise to your heart's content!
