The ability to unsend messages in Mail has been added to iOS 16 — here's how it works.
With iOS 16's ability to unsend email in Mail, you can save yourself some embarrassment by recalling a message that was incomplete, ill-considered, or riddled with typos. However, the window for recalling a message is limited — you only have 30 seconds — so you should know exactly how to unsend an email in iOS 16 Mail before installing Apple's latest software update for the iPhone.
Unsending an email on your iPhone requires more than just tapping a button. You can also specify how long you want to wait before sending an email, or you can disable the unsend email feature entirely. It's as simple as going into the Settings app and making the necessary changes.
Here's everything you need to know about how to unsend and email in iOS 16 Mail, including how to change the setting that controls how long you have to tap unsend.
How to Change the Mail App's Undo Send Delay
The Undo Send feature is enabled by default in iOS 16, but you only have 10 seconds to stop the message from being sent. If that is too short a delay, you can increase the time allotted. Here's how to go about it.
1. Navigate to Settings and then Mail.
2. On the subsequent screen, scroll down and select Undo Send Delay. (You'll find it near the bottom of the Mail Settings screen.)
3. A list of time options will appear, with 10 seconds already selected. You can change the time to 20 or 30 seconds, extending the time you have to unsend an email in iOS 16 Mail. When you select Off, the unsend option is disabled.
How to Easily Unsend an Email in iOS 16 Mail
You can now unsend an email in iOS 16 Mail (assuming you didn't select Off).
1. When you tap the Send button on a composed message, you will be returned to the inbox screen. You'll notice an Undo Send command at the bottom of the screen. To cancel your email, tap Undo Send.
2. If you successfully recall your email, you'll be returned to the email draught, where you can make changes or delete it entirely.
For however long you've set the Undo Send Delay in Settings, the Undo Send command appears at the bottom of the inbox screen.
That's it. One of the many new features in iOS 16 Mail is the ability to send scheduled emails.
Messages receives the Unsend treatment in iOS 16, allowing you to unsend text messages. You can also edit text messages in iOS 16 Messages, which has a larger window for editing or unsending texts than unsending emails in iOS 16 Mail.
