How to Remove a Subject from a Photograph Using iOS 16 Visual Look Up

Visual Look Up now allows you to extract images from the rest of a photograph. One of the more interesting features of iOS 16 is the ability to lift a subject out of a photo and either share it or copy it so you can paste it into other iOS 16 apps.

For Visual Look Up, iOS 16 moves things in a new direction. You can tap on an object in a photo to separate it from the background, and the iPhone software will leap into action. The lifted image can then be copied and used as desired.

This feature works with images from your camera roll, as well as those found in Safari, Quick Look, and any screenshots you've taken. Objects lifted can then be pasted into Messages or Notes. It's a great way to find images to supplement your research notes, and it's also a fun way to share images with friends.

Here's how to extract a subject from a photo in iOS 16 so you can copy or share it.

1. Locate a photograph in which you want to capture the subject. In this case, we'll use an image from my Photos library.

2. Hold your finger on the image. A neat animation will pulse around the edge of the photo's subject, followed by a Copy/Share button.

3. Tap Share to open a sharesheet with a list of people and apps with whom you can share the image.

4. Tap Copy, and the image is copied to the clipboard on your iPhone. Enter another app, in this case Messages, to paste the copied image.

That is all there is to it. While a great deal of intelligence is occurring in the background to separate the subject of a photo from its background, the process is basically seamless to the iPhone user.

you can experiment with other iOS 16 features such as capturing text from video with Live Text, customising your iOS 16 lock screen, and adjusting the layout of notifications on the lock screen.
