How to Copy Text from a Video in iOS 16 Using Live Text

In iOS 16, Live Text gains a new trick — here's how to extract text from a video. Live Text is a fantastic iOS feature that allows you to extract text from photos and paste it into other documents.

Of course, there are some limitations. The video must be paused, and the text must appear prominently in the video at this stage in the iOS 16 beta process.

The feature also appears to be limited to videos you've shot or found on Safari. Third-party video apps will almost certainly need to be updated in order to use Live Text's capture features.

Once you get the hang of it, using Live Text in videos is fairly simple. Here's how to use Live Text to grab text in a video.

1. Find a video with text in it and play it.

2. When you see the text you want to capture, pause the video.

3. Tap the Live Text button in the lower right corner of the screen. Relevant action buttons will appear.

You can now find out whatever you want by tapping on a website URL, a phone number, or a translate button.

4. To copy text from a video, I simply tap and hold on the text in question. A pop-up menu appears, allowing me to copy text.

You don't always have to tap the text to copy it. Using one of the videos that appears to you, for example: (the Safari browser on iPhone, you will be able to tap the three dots icon by the playback bar.)

This displayed a Show Text command, which highlighted the onscreen text. I could use the Copy All button to copy the on-screen text and paste it into another app that accepts text.

Capturing video in Live Text is one of the iOS 16 features that showcases Apple's improved intelligence features. Visual Look Up also receives an update, allowing you to copy a subject from a photo and paste it into another app.

You can also try out features like editing texts in Messages, customizing the iPhone's lock screen and setting up your iCloud Shared Photo Library.
