Microsoft Rolls Out Free Verification System for LinkedIn Users

Microsoft is releasing a new LinkedIn authentication system that will allow users to authenticate their identity and place of employment.

To obtain a verified digital ID, the method uses an email address and Microsoft's Entra-verified ID platform.

According to The Verge, consumers can use CLEAR to confirm their identification and validate their workplace using an email address, as well as the Microsoft Entra verified ID platform to receive free digital workplace IDs.

This means that if your company uses Entra, you can use either the company-issued email address or Entra to authenticate your workplace.

If they work for one of the nearly 4,000 supported companies, all LinkedIn members can now use the company email verification.

Microsoft Entra verification will be available to an initial 2 million LinkedIn members at the end of April. The system is based on a decentralised identity and trust model with an issuer, holder, and verifier.

Organisations can issue employees with digitally signed digital IDs that they can use to prove that they work for a company and enjoy basic discounts, or even to demonstrate that they are employed in order to receive loan approval.

Microsoft intends to apply this type of system to other areas where verification and trust are essential.
