How to Configure My Sports in the News app for iOS 16

You can now follow your favourite teams in iOS 16 News.

Sports fans have every reason to download the updated iOS 16 News app, which is included with Apple's iPhone software update. News now includes a My Sports feature that highlights your favourite teams' wins, losses, and ongoing drama. Even better, configuring the My Sports feature in the iOS 16 News app is simple.

My Sports is initially available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, though we expect Apple to eventually expand the feature to other regions. Following teams from the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, college football and basketball, MLS, and NWSL is now possible with iOS 16.

Are you looking to supplement your daily News fix with more sports coverage? After you've downloaded iOS 16, follow these steps to activate the My Sports feature in the News app.

How to Configure My Sports in the News app for iOS 16:

1. Open the News app.

2. Scroll down in the Today tab until you reach the Favorites section. Select My Sports.

3. Go to the Following section and tap Manage to add teams to follow. (This section may already be populated with topics and sports that you expressed an interest in when customising your news feed previously.)

4. To add specific teams, either tap the plus button next to the teams in the Suggested section or tap See All for a more comprehensive list.

5. To add a team by sport, go to All Sports and select the appropriate league. (In this instance, we'll go with college football.) Scroll down to the team you want to add and tap the plus button on the following page.

6. When you're finished adding teams, click the Done button in the upper right corner of the Manage My Sports page.

Once everything is in place, icons for your favourite teams will appear in the Following section. When you tap an icon, you will be taken to a team-specific screen with recent scores, video highlights, and stories. (Please keep in mind that some of those stories will require an Apple News Plus subscription to read — they will bear the News Plus logo.) You'll also be able to see league standings and, if applicable, where your team ranks.

My Sports is not just for the News app. If one of your favourite teams' upcoming games is being televised, it will appear in the TV app's Watch Now tab. If you want to watch the game on your iPhone, you must have the appropriate streaming app installed. You'll also receive notifications about upcoming games.

News is just one of the apps on your phone that will get new features in iOS 16. You can now edit text messages you've sent in Messages and unsend texts if you accidentally sent them to the wrong person or group. The Live Text feature in iOS 16 can now copy text that appears in video, and Visual Look Up can be used to lift the subject of a photo out of its background by simply tapping and holding.
